Digitalization is now an essential part of effective and flexible management of logistics flows, both at the level of individual companies and throughout the supply chain. In addition to choosing the right technologies and processes, it is important to set digitalization goals in the company. However, it is also important not to forget the importance of the human factor.
Effective digitalization of the logistics flow can be understood as the transfer of correct information between individual links in the chain. " The main principles are to correctly set up communication between individual partners and correctly connect ERP systems so that orders and documents can be automatically transferred between companies. This increases the speed and accuracy of processes ," explains Miroslav Králík, delivery manager of LOKiA WMS at GRiT. Effective digitalization should also include information about the assortment, such as the size and weight of products, which can be easily used for storage and distribution. According to Miroslav Králík, it is important to verify the correctness of the communication settings between partners before putting them into production. Companies that have been digitized in this way can communicate better and cooperate more effectively in the logistics chain.
Set specific and measurable goals
In addition to technological aspects, a key prerequisite is to set a specific and measurable goal for digitalization . " The goal is not digitalization itself, nor are slogans like 'we will become more modern'. The goals are profit, productivity, freeing up cash flow, the ability to offer new services ," says Petr Jahoda, CEO of Resultful. According to him, when digitizing across the supply chain, the most important thing is that other organizations in the chain are truly prepared for digitalization - technologically, organizationally and, most importantly, "mindset". And that all members are motivated by shared success.
On the contrary, unsuccessful digitalization is easy to recognize – the company does not achieve the measurable financial or operational goals that it set at the beginning. “ And if you did not even set such a digitalization goal at the beginning, then it is almost certain that the digitalization activity will not be successful and will quite possibly be a waste of money ,” adds Petr Jahoda.
