A pallet of goods arrives, the warehouse worker scans its SSCC with a single movement of the reader and all items from the pallet are automatically transferred to your warehouse/company system: including their quantity, expiration date or batch. As a customer, this way you speed up the receipt of goods by up to 30% - and reduce its error rate to zero.
What is SSCC?
The SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) is an 18-digit number used to identify a logistic unit (e.g. a pallet) as it moves through the supply chain. The SSCC is part of the GS1-128 (formerly EAN-128) barcode , so it can be easily read with a standard barcode reader.

If you get your supplier to tag pallets with SSCCs, you can quickly stock pallets into your business systems without having to unpack them and scan individual items. The only requirement is that you have an advanced warehouse management system (WMS) in place, such as LOKiA WMS .
Even stronger in combination with EDI
You will get even more of the potential of SSCC if you communicate with your suppliers using EDI messages. In response to your order, the supplier sends a so-called delivery advice (DESADV message) and lists the contents of each pallet in advance. This way, you can prepare for the physical receipt of the goods in advance, because you know exactly what goods and in what quantity they will arrive . When you receive them later, you have prepared positions in the warehouse, you load one pallet after another into the reader, and you speed up the whole process even more.
SSCC makes work easier, especially for customers when receiving goods. However, this does not mean that suppliers cannot also come up with the idea of introducing SSCC into a business relationship. With the help of a handy WMS or EDI system, preparing labels with SSCC numbers is very fast, so it will not delay you. Moreover, thanks to them, you can easily check that no pallet is missing before the goods are physically shipped.
However, this step will primarily help your customer , simplify their work and increase the chance that they will start ordering more from you. Some large customers (for example, Alza.cz) expect SSCC from their suppliers.
